It is indeed a dark night. Please help us increase our faith. Teach us. Lead us. WE thirst for orthodoxy.

so Owl...what does it take to get the faith of a "mustard seed"...mortifications? memorization of the Catechism? Works? chanting throughout the day "I believe, help my unbelief"??? All of these? and they say Faith is proven in our works...what if we want to increase the Faith? It takes a gift from God, no?!? As such do we start the works and faith shall come in its time, or is it the Faith that allows us to start the works... so lost a sheep I am...

----And then where does BVM come into all of this as she is cause of our joy...and how does she figure/factor into an increase of Faith in placing it all in Her hands and having her lead us to Jesus and then to further increase what starts so infintesimally minute, what can be so damaged if it falls on rocky soil or is choked by weeds as told in the parable of the Sower. So where to begin, where to begin as I sit and spin in circles

Causeofourjoy: I can't remember where I read it - or which saint said it - but when asked how our faith grows - the saint responded "give alms" - in other words - our charity will help our faith grow - real love not isolated gifts. And handing everything over to Our Lady - especially under her title of Our Lady of Ransom - does work!

The advice my confessor gives is if you want to increase your faith practice charity, if you want to increase your charity do acts of faith. They seem to be tied together.

When I think "charity" I think of it as giving money or talents. But do you mean that or the charity as in saying kind words or holding your tongue or doing --without recognition-- a kind deed for someone? Or more especially a someone whom you don't really feel too kind toward? That is what they mean by "Christian Charity" right? Oh-so-much-to-learn!
