Useless Company

As faithful readers will remember (all three of them) I ordered two bookcases from Home Decorators back in August. Most of my books are on the floor of the rectory apartment. I was told they would arrive in October. Then an email arrived saying they were delayed until November (they are not, by the way, exquisite items - just Chinese junk). When they didn't arrive in November, I called and was assured that they would be "shipped by the 24th November - and I could have 20% off for my trouble." I called this morning and was told - "oh no, they will be delayed until January." I have cancelled the order and will never even consider using Home Decorators again - now I need to find some bookcases........time for a rant......

If you just want the cheap stuff and don't mind doing a little assembly you can find bookcase kits at places like Home Depot, K-Mart, etc. However, I would suggest you look at a second hand furniture place (sometimes otherwise known as antique stores). You might find something better made for about the same dollars. The kits usually work for me, but be warned that the tall ones have to be attached to the wall (which requires extra tools...).

Geez, you could have learned enough carpentry yourself to knock those puppies out by now!

I had a worse experience a few years back. Spring of '06. I wanted to give someone (at the End of her Jr. year in high school) a confirmation gift of a hardbound "New Jerome Bible Study." I was in the area of a Catholic Goods/Bookstore area, and order it about a month before the confirmation, with assurances the book would be there in time for same.

ONE AND A HALF YEARS AFTER I got a postcard saying they had the book in stock. [I had ended ordering it on line from Amazon or B&N - and had gotten a discount off it.]

I would have told the original place what they could do with it, but it was a Catholic "Bookstore/Supply Goods" store after all.
