Today, on December 9th, 1531, Our Lady first appeared to St. Juan Diego. We celebrate his Feast Day today. It is worth remembering that, only 2o years later, her image was on one of the ships at the Battle of Lepanto. Perhaps it is time Our Lady of Guadalupe was declared a Solemnity, at least for the Americas?

PRobably won't happen -- she's already patroness of all the Americas, but as the Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the United States, and already a holy day of Obligation, I'd be surprised if they had her as another Holy Day of Obligation. I believe in Mexico, she might be though. Didn't know she was on a ship at LEpanto!
I've loved the story of Juan Diego ever since I'd heard of him in the 2nd grade. One of my nuns was from Puerto Rico, and I can remember her telling us the story.
